As many of you have heard, Alice Fink passed away on Monday, February 6th at the age of 95. As her funeral will be held in the spring, we thought we would share some memories now of this lovely woman.
Alice had deep roots in the Delano Catholic parishes. She married her husband, Al, at St. Mary of Chestochowa, but she spent most of her life a member of St. Joseph and she attended St. Peter's School. She loved the Church of St. Maximilian Kolbe and felt very proud to have such a beautiful modern day saint as our patron.
Whether you knew Alice most of your life or had just come to meet her in the last year or two, she had a way of making one feel comfortable with her gentle and kind ways. She particularly loved seeing all of the children at Mass.
Her presence was a blessing to our parish in so many ways; here are two that stand out:
Alice tutored at St. Peter's school for over 20 years and many of those children, now adults, would stop by to say hello to her at Mass or Donut Sunday. She had blessed them with her patience and kindness during these tutoring sessions and they had not forgotten her.
Alice loved to sing and play piano. She was a member of the choir and years ago was thrilled to travel with our parish choir, led by Dr. Joe Henry, to Rome to sing for the Pope.
In her later years as her health deteriorated, she took great pleasure in attending Mass and coming to see all of the friendly people in the parish. She often remarked that she felt so welcome.
Alice will be missed. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.
